Rotator cuff tendinopathy refers to irritation or reduced capacity of one or more of the rotator cuff tendons. The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and tendons that help stabilise your shoulder and control arm movement.
Rather than being a sudden injury, tendinopathy commonly develops gradually when the tendon is exposed to more load than it can currently tolerate. This may occur from repetitive activities, increased sporting participation, physically demanding work or changes related to ageing.
People with rotator cuff tendinopathy commonly experience:
Pain on the outside or front of the shoulder
