A key area of special interest and skills at BPC is hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSDs), including hypermobile Ehlers Danlos syndrome (HEDS).
If you have HSD related problems, we can help with your pain, strength and stability. We also understand the multi dimensionality of these conditions and the impact these other factors, such as fatigue and cardiac dysautonomia can have on your function and well-being.
Our approach to Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) related problems starts by listening to your story, allowing us to understand your individual experience of the disease and its complications. We will then work with you to develop a pathway to regain best long term outcomes.
We begin with a HSD informed musculoskeletal approach, incorporating individualised rehabilitation exercise, manual therapy, and lifestyle advice. In this process we explore your choices, as to whether focusing on specific body parts, or a more whole of body approach would suit you better. We include evidence-based pain interventions to improve function and quality of life.
At every step, we work with you to keep your goals and preferences at the core of the program. As best we can, we move towards strategies for self-care and guided exercise. This process varies between home programs, gym exercises, and on-going guided exercise programs carried out onsite in our gym or Pilates studio. This stage may still be a long way off, but we will keep it as a focus as we begin the journey with you.
We always start with very manageable exercises, based on the HSD specific Integral Movement Method. Stage 2 is carefully growing your activity and tolerance to exercise, as we work with you towards your goals. The whole process focuses on working in your chosen space to help improve your quality of life.
